Janis Howes

I draw my inspiration from the beauty of form, shape and color I find in the natural world. I work in graphite, colored pencil, watercolor, pen & ink, gauche and carbon dust on paper, drafting film and other surfaces. My curiosity of nature drives my enthusiasm to create exacting glimpses into the intricacies and beauty of the wild world outside my door. I am most interested in capturing the light and color that is not immediately seen at first glance, but there in the details.
I earned a certificate in Natural Science Illustration from the University of Washington in Seattle in the Spring of 2016, and an AAAS degree in Graphic Design from Shoreline Community College in 2004. I have shown my art at Schack Art Center in Everett, WA, Gallery North in Edmonds, WA, The Burke Museum and UW Health Hall, Shoreline/Lake Forest Park Art Gallery and have participated in juried art shows in the Seattle area for the past 10 years.
