Growing up among the rolling hills of the Palouse country in eastern Washington, I learned to appreciate the natural world in all its different colors, shapes, and seasons. I especially fell in love with that low, golden light that comes just before sunset. My father was a photographer, and I remember many an evening with my family spent driving the back roads in search of that light. At a very young age, I learned to spot the wildlife and identify all kinds of animals and birds
It seems drawing, painting and writing have always been a big part of my life. I have never been able to resist a blank sheet of paper or a sharp pencil! The form and function of animals has always fascinated me.
Over time, this evolved into an interest in science and a college degree in Zoology. My college lab partners always appreciated my detailed dissection drawings, as they were great to study from! I enjoy working with animals and have been fortunate to have hands-on experience with many different species through my jobs and volunteer work over the years. The recent completion of my Certificate in Natural Science Illustration has been the perfect combination of art and science. I hope to express through art my love of animals and appreciation for the natural world. I enjoy working in graphite, watercolor, colored pencil, and pen and ink.
