Drawing on Nature: Flora and Fauna
The Northwest Chapter of the Guild of Natural Science Illustrators and The Pacific Northwest Botanical Artists’ present Drawing on Nature: Flora and Fauna, a juried exhibit displayed at the Washington State Convention and Trade Center Exhibition Space at 800 Convention Place, Seattle, from Wednesday, January 15 through Tuesday, April 1, 2014. The exhibit is displayed in the hallway on Level 2.
GNSI-NW and The PNBA are non-profit organizations of artists. The mission of their members is the promotion of Science in Art, to educate and inspire viewers, as well as provide research and information valuable to scientific studies. They create art with a high degree of accuracy and workmanship, as they draw on a historical tradition in botanical, medical, and the scientific disciplines.

END OF EXHIBIT:
It is the artists' responsibility to make arrangements by April 2, 2014, to pick up art at the end of the show from the art receiving persons: Marian Jones – Seattle (206) 522-0933 or Jan Hurd – Kitsap (360) 779-9367. Some art in this exhibit will be shown at a subsequent PNBA exhibit at the University of Washington Elisabeth C. Miller Library at the Center for Urban Horticulture (CUH). Art for the Miller Library exhibit has to be submitted via the usual Miller Exhibit Registration Form and accompanied by the necessary fee (if applicable.) It will be transported from the Convention Center to the library by Exhibit volunteers from GNSI–NW and PNBA.

FRAMING GUIDELINES:
- Artwork must be presented in a professional manner.
- PNBA and GNSI reserve the right to exclude artwork that is not professionally presented or does not meet the general standards outlined below.
- Due to the large space in the Convention Center it is recommended that artwork be at least 10" x 13", or 46" in circumference.
- Neutral mats should be used. A white or off-white mat is preferred. Gray, beige or black mats are considered neutral and quite acceptable. If a double mat is used the inside mat must be narrow, preferably no more than 1/8" wide and if contrasting colors are used, both colors must be neutral e.g. a white outer mat with a black inside mat.
- Decorative or colored mats are not acceptable.
- Frames should be simple, of metal or wood, with a gallery frame profile preferred (this is an “L” shaped profile i.e. flat front and flat side.) Colors should be neutral. Natural, black, copper, silver or gold are acceptable.
- Decorative colors are not acceptable.
- Wide (> 1.5"), carved, or ornate frames are not acceptable.
- Artwork must be safely and securely wired for hanging.
- Sawtooth hangers are not acceptable.
- Glass may be used on smaller items or larger items being hand-delivered. However, acrylic is preferred for safety and to prevent damage during transportation. Acrylic is preferred on items over 20" x 24" or 88" in circumference and must be used on any item being shipped by mail or other commercial carrier.
SELLING ART:
- Your original art may be priced for sale or not. Artists may also have prints available for sale. For those wishing to sell their original art and/or prints, a prospective buyer will be directed to contact the artist via the information on the label accompanying the art, and/or the show catalogue.
- Sold art must remain on exhibit until the end of the show.
- Send the name of your sold art to Margaret Trent by March 30, 2014: mgt@mgtrent.com for inventory purposes and to insure that sold art does not end up in the subsequent Miller Library (CUH) exhibit.
- To avoid difficulties please give art to buyer after or at the same time you receive full payment.
- If desired, Sylvia Portillo will process Credit/Debit payments using her Square Card Reader for those who do not have that capability.
- Blank sales receipts are available above and should be completed by filling in all the appropriate blanks.
- The sales receipt contains information indicating what to do with the sales receipt following the sale.
