The GNSI-NW board is pleased to present the opportunity for members to take part in a very special workshop on building scale model maquette references. This same workshop was a rousing success at this year’s GNSI Conference in Santa Cruz. The day-long workshop is hosted by Reid Psaltis, an illustrator from Portland, OR and a graduate of the Science Illustration program at California State University Monterey Bay. After an internship at the American Museum of Natural History in New York, Reid developed a method for sculpting maquettes, scale models of a subject to be used as reference for illustration. Made from plastaline clay atop a metal armature these small models are an extremely helpful tool in visualizing tricky subject matter.
Registration is required for the workshop so that the need for supplies can be anticipated. Please email [email protected] for more info.
If you are already registered, please take note of the following items you need to bring on workshop day: 1) workshop fee in the form of cash or check, 2) a packed lunch to be eaten during a short lunch break as we will not be supplying food, 3) at least 1 printout of your chosen maquette animal’s skeleton that is at least 8 inches long, and more printouts of the animal’s musculature and fur/feathers/etc. We use these references as the base foundation of the maquette, so it’s very important to come prepared with these printouts at the size specified.
The workshop is being held at the Swedish Cultural Center in Westlake, Seattle, and there is ample free parking available in two lots adjacent to the building.

Winter GNSI-NW Workshop - Accounting and Tax Issues for the Artist
Date: January 23, 2016
General Meeting: 12:30 - 1:30pm
Tax Workshop: 1:30 - 3:00pm
Location: Zamani World Dance, Bothell Country Village
23718 Bothell-Everett Highway, Bothell, WA
Cost: free to members, $10 non-members
Bring: a clipboard or sturdy notebook to write on for the workshop; art to share, ideas for the guild and questions for the general meeting
Join us in January for a two-stage gathering! First we'll have a general guild meeting. This is a chance for us all to share projects and concerns, to learn from each other's experience, and to discus the direction of the guild.
After our general meeting it'll be time for a workshop with Lynn Parsley. This workshop will cover accounting issues for artists, including recommendations for income and expenses and their reporting; and both Washington Dept of Revenue issues and the filing of federal income taxes. A good refresher course for those already established and a comprehensive discussion for those new to the industry. Handouts will be provided and ample time will be provided for questions.
Lynn Parsley, CPA has been in the practice of accounting since 1980, both in private industry and public accounting practice. She has been a licensed CPA in the State of Washington since 1987, and has owned her own public accounting firm since 1990, where she specializes in small business accounting and taxes. In her spare time, Lynn is a belly dance performer and instructor; and owns a small farm where she raises and rides horses.
Bothell Country Village is a charming location featuring a duck pond and wandering chickens as well as a variety of eateries and boutiques. Stick around after the workshop for tea and socializing!
