Laura Papstein
Ever since I was two, I wanted to be a doctor when I grew up. However, I really loved to draw. My dad, a 3D animator, inspired me with his artistic abilities and he introduced me to digital art. By high school I wanted to be a radiologist. I attended the Science Focus Program at the zoo which emphasized scientific research. During this time, I thought of art as only a hobby. I spent my first year of college at Colorado State University. My major was biomedical sciences to prepare for medical school. By sophomore year I decided to transfer back home to NWU. I took an art class for fun and realized my love for art was stronger than ever. I was quickly torn between medicine and illustration as careers. I soon discovered that I could combine my passions into one. From then on, my focus became scientific/medical illustration.
After graduating from NWU with a BS in Biology and a minor in studio art, I attended the post-baccalaureate Science Illustration Certificate Program at California State University-Monterey Bay. I now reside in Port Angeles, WA with my husband, who is in the US Coast Guard. I'm familiar with biomedical, zoological and botanical illustration and well-versed in most mediums.
