Karen Kohler

Karen Koehler has always found ways to express her need to create and work with her hands in various artistic endeavors. Although her career in science and interest in art developed separately, Karen has brought both together in her paintings and drawings. When she discovered the magic of watercolor with its inherent difficulties, she rose to the challenge and tested her abilities. She continues to sojourn into less popular techniques, exploring centuries old tools and materials.

More recently, her awareness has been focused on oft overlooked or forgotten objects. Karen's training to observe and record is apparent in her execution, while her sensitivity toward her subjects is revealed in her composition. Besides emphasizing the individual character of the subject, Karen hopes the focus she brings will convey its essence through color, shadow and fine detail. Karen has exhibited in area galleries and other venues, both individually and with groups, receiving ribbons in a number of local juried shows.
