                                                Sara Samuelson

Living along the inspirational California coast, she developed a love for nature and marine life. This, combined with her love of the arts and sciences, took Sara to Seattle, Washington. There, she attended the University of Washington and recently earned a Graduate Certificate in Science Illustration.

Her preferred subjects include marine invertebrates, marine algae and insects. She enjoys not only the beauty of these subjects, but exploring the mechanisms by which they function, their complex physical structures, and their interconnectedness with the environments in which they live. To illustrate the story that goes along with a subject and its relationship with its environment is the essence of ecology and leads us to a more complete understanding.

Sara focuses on revealing these facets of her subjects through illustration. The science behind their beauty intrigues her.

To expose so much through illustration requires background knowledge. Accordingly, Sara not only dedicates herself to her work while drawing, but also during outdoor exploration and thorough library research.

Her techniques include graphite, pen & ink, colored pencil, and acrylic. These techniques allow her to create detailed illustrations to clearly communicate both beauty and information.
