                                                Stewart Alcorn

Stewart Alcorn enjoys painting both extant and extinct wildlife. Most of his pieces are of Pacific Northwest species, particularly salmon, but images birds, pteradons, and insects have leaked out as well.

Using acrylic paints on either watercolor paper or hardboard, Stewart paints in a highly detailed, representational style. His academic training and career in science instilled the need for unbiased observation of a subject, enhancing Stewart’s ability to paint accurate, realistic images.  He looks upon each piece as a chance to study the animals and plants he wishes to accurately depict.  This study includes not only the featured creature, but also the ecosystem of which it is a part.

Due to this attention to detail without compromising his artistic vision, Stewart has been selected as the featured artist at Issaquah Salmon Days, participated in the State of Washington Lt. Governor’s show  ‘Salmon – The Endangered Species,’ and has been selected for a number of juried art shows. He has also produced scientific illustrations for peer-reviewed scientific publications, educational posters, and logos for scientific meetings.
