Sylvia Portillo

Sylvia Portillo’s love of art began with numerous childhood visits to the art and natural history museums in Los Angeles.  Moving to Seattle in 1969, she immersed herself into various art-making techniques.  In 2001, Sylvia completed the University of Washington’s Scientific Illustration certificate program finally finding a discipline that combines her fascination with art and science and the delight of “show and tell.”  She uses a variety of media to create her art, but with a single goal to share the wonders of nature as seen through her eyes.  Sylvia’s art can be found as book illustration, card art, on art tiles in Seattle’s Olympic Sculpture Park Vivarium and in its accompanying field guide.
