Drawing on Nature: Flora and Fauna Please join The Guild of Natural Science Illustrators-Northwest Chapter (GNSI-NW) and The Pacific Northwest Botanical Artists (PNBA), a Chapter of the American Society of Botanical Artists, for the first time have combined their efforts to create this exhibition entitled “Drawing on Nature: Flora and Fauna”. The art selected for this exhibit was juried by a committee of professional artists and scientists in the Pacific Northwest. As the title suggests this exhibit includes a wide range of subjects from the natural world. GNSI-NW and the PNBA are nonprofit organizations made up of professional and amateur artists dedicated to generating awareness of our surrounding ecosystems. PNBA’s focus is primarily on botanical illustrations, but may also show the symbiotic relationship of a plant with its habitat, insects or other wildlife. GNSI-NW has a broader perspective, which includes botanical, animal, and mineral subjects in various formats such as medical science and interpretive art. The skills and techniques represented in the artwork in this exhibit will reflect hundreds of years of knowledge accumulated by artists who have studied and worked to master their media. Scientific illustration demands a complex understanding of process, techniques, tools, and subject matter in order to move beyond the skills to render a nice picture. The abilities of a science illustrator must also communicate to viewers a sense of appreciation and impart a more intimate knowledge of the subject and at the same time appeal to aesthetic principles. Location - Trade Center Exhibition Space at 800 Convention Place, Seattle. WA
